A child was admitted into the ER for stitches...
.... In the ER they insisted that they glue the wound instead of stitch it. They said that is all they ever do with kids anymore. I was very apprehensive, but they truly insisted and I finally agreed. The glue didn't hold and now his scar is rather wide and if I want to fix it I have to wait a year and go to a plastic surgeon to have it cut open and re-stitched. Not a thought I relish.
Advise from a plastic surgeon,
... he said he NEVER lets anyone glue his kids, he thinks it doesn't work and ERs use it so they can avoid having to deal with upset kids and stitches, not because it's really best. He said I should never let anyone glue my kids again. He also said ERs have plastic surgeons on call and not to let ER staff stitch your kids, particularly on their faces. You can always request they call in the plastic surgeon on call and wait for them to do the stitching. I just wanted to pass this on to you in case you ever have such a situation arise (hopefully not). I sure wish I had known.
Good thing to know, right?
